Debbie Wilson Counselling

(MBACP Accred)

Therapeutic and relationship counsellor for adults and couples in Godalming, Surrey and online throughout UK

My Approach

I offer a supportive, calm, empathic and non judgemental space where the unsaid can be said, where you will be truly listened to and where you can gain insight into your world. My professional training ensures I can offer a variety of approaches and no two people’s journey will be the same. I adapt how I work according to your needs and what feels comfortable for you.

My approach is collaborative in that we work together on the goals that you set. I offer short and long term therapy according to your needs and will discuss what you hope to gain from counselling at our first session together. I facilitate regular reviews of our work to ensure it is moving towards your expectations and welcome feedback to ensure you get what you need from our time together.

If you are thinking about counselling, contact me by phone or email for a free discussion.

Your Sessions

How does counselling work?

I arrange a free, no obligation 20 minutes discussion either on the telephone or online by Zoom following your enquiry about counselling. This gives you an opportunity to meet me, to hear my voice, ask any questions and see if you feel you would like to work with me.

We then set up a time for an Assessment either face to face or online where we talk in more depth about what brings you to counselling and your hopes and expectations. When working with a couple the assessment appointments are completed individually.

We will work together on the issues you bring, usually initially for 4-6 sessions before we review and see if we are talking about the right things and meeting your goals. Ongoing review takes place throughout your counselling.

How much will it cost?

Fees are £55 for individuals for 50 minutes and £75 for couples for 60 minutes. Sessions usually take place once a week, where possible at the same time and on the same day. However I appreciate that life happens and am as flexible as possible. I am able to accommodate shift workers within my practice.

Payment is by bank transfer 24 hours before the session.

What If I need to cancel?

Please let me know if you cannot attend your session. I request 48 hours notice of any changes or cancellations and do not then charge for the session. If less notice is given I may have to charge the session fee.

How long will I need to come?

Each counselling journey is different. Some people come for a few sessions, others find they want to stay much longer. At all times I am led by you, we discuss your goals and regularly review them.

Where are you located?

My counselling practice is in Godalming, a short drive from the A3, and is easily accessible to South West Surrey, North Hampshire and Sussex borders. I also provide counselling sessions online and on the telephone.

Confidentiality

Counselling offers a confidential space to talk about whatever is important to you although there are a few exceptions. If I was worried about your welfare, or that of someone you talk about in counselling, I may need to discuss that with another professional. Where possible I would talk to you about that first. I also have legal obligations to report information about potential or actual harm to a child or vulnerable adult, and information about some criminal offences.

I protect our professional relationship and keep all your information anonymously stored with a code number system. Like all counsellors I have regular supervision but your name and personal details are not shared except in rare circumstances. Full details of my information sharing policies are contained in my Therapeutic Contract and Privacy Document which are available on request and discussed prior to counselling starting.
